If you’re looking to enhance your abilities in an office setting as well as gain medical experience, but prefer to have more control over how, when, and where you can study, then the Medical Office Assistant online program is the right fit for you. This program provides you with the opportunity to pursue a diploma at your own pace and offers online courses to give you the flexibility to comfortably fit an education into your busy life.

By the end of the program, you will be equipped with all the skills you need to be successful at the forefront of a doctor’s office and as an assistant who’s assessing patients. You will understand the different classes of drugs and their use in various treatments, be well-versed in medical terminology, gain knowledge about the Canadian healthcare system, and learn clinical procedures generally performed in a medical office – prescription handling, assisting patients with their exams, and diagnostic testing.

You will also learn computer fundamentals, with emphasis on computers outfitted with the Microsoft Windows operating system, and gain a strong understanding of all Microsoft applications. The Medical Office Assistant program will help build on your communication and multi-tasking skills, as well as enhance your knowledge in Accounting applications. You will be encouraged to be a team player while putting your professional and interpersonal skills to practice throughout the course of this program.

Full-time Schedule:

You also have the choice to take the Medical Office Assistant program full-time. In just 32 weeks, you can obtain four certifications:

– Accounting and Applications Certificate

– Medical Practice Certificate

This course addresses the theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for safe and accurate preparation of sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products. For non-sterile preparation, students will focus on compounding practices for various internal and external preparations and specialty dosage forms, equipment and tools, professional guidelines, standards and legislation, pharmaceutical calculations, and documentation requirements. For sterile product preparation, areas of emphasis include infection control, aseptic technique, parenteral dosage forms, accurate calculations, appropriate use of equipment, and quality control. Best practices associated with the preparation of TPN and antineoplastics are also covered.
